A long time ago (okay, it was early 2002) and Kit Holmes had only been living in the Austin area for just a couple of months. She wanted to make connections in the music scene so she volunteered to help out with a big fundraiser for the Austin Music Foundation taking place at the iconic La Zona Rosa music venue.

Little did she know there would be an on-the-spot contest for some of Austin's finest musicians to vie for a coveted position in the pick up band that would close the event that night. Each guitar player shredded their best. Each bass player laid on the funk. Each drummer knocked it out of the park. The crowd chose the best of the best and the band took shape. 

 

Quite literally not knowing anyone in the room, Kit belted out an a capella version of "When Will I Be Loved" that would have given Linda Ronstadt a run for her money. The crowd thundered their approval and Kit beat out Austin's heaviest hitters for the lead vocalist spot in what became known as the One Night Band.

 

These new bandmates - for one night only - who had never played together before had just one hour to put together a 30 minute set and deliver it without any rehearsal. And, as you probably guessed, they nailed it!

As Kit's musical reputation grew, so did the roster of insanely talented musicians she would have the pleasure of working with. Every now and then, someone would come to Kit looking for a smokin' hot dance band for fundraiser, wedding reception or epic party, and she'd "get the band back together" ...or some iteration of it. It all depends on which of these total pros is available for the gig!

The One Night Band features a rotating cast of Austin's (and now Michigan's) most versatile and talented musicians and singers, laying down covers of the best Motown, Classic Rock, Rockabilly and early Pop hits!

Kit Holmes and the One Night have one mission:  to keep you on the dance floor all night long and have an absolute blast doing it!
